JAWAI LEOPARD RESERVE

Experience a luxury safari in Jawai the land of leopards and shepherds

ABOUT JAwai

Jawai is unlike anywhere else in India a raw, ancient landscape set within Rajasthan, where leopards and people have learned to share space in remarkable harmony. This community-run reserve, shaped largely by local stewardship, offers a rare glimpse into a world where the wild exists without conflict for over 166 years.

Scattered across nearly 300 granite hills, Jawai’s geology tells a deeper story of formations shaped by volcanic activity around 760,000 years ago, layered over the far older Sirohi Group dating back nearly 850 million years. It’s within this dramatic, timeworn terrain of caves, rocky outcrops, and shimmering reservoirs that leopards thrive, moving with quiet confidence through a landscape that feels made for them.

At the heart of it all are the Rabari herders recognisable by their red turbans and enduring traditions whose relationship with these predators is built on tolerance and respect. Even in the face of loss, there is no retaliation, creating a coexistence that is as rare as it is remarkable.
